Prayer for the Nation

As the number of deaths in the UK from COVID-19 exceeds 100,000, so the Bishop of Carlisle, the Rt Rev James Newcome, is encouraging everyone in Cumbria to join in with a Prayer for the Nation again at 6pm each day in February.

Click here to download the new booklet of prayers (February 2021) for every day, and any day, of the week. You could use these prayers while the lockdown is in force or perhaps just a short general prayer like this one, attributed to St Augustine.

Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight,
and give your angels charge over those who sleep.
Tend your sick ones, O Lord Christ.
Rest your weary ones.
Bless your dying ones.
Soothe your suffering ones.
Pity your afflicted ones.
Shield your joyous ones.
And for all your love’s sake.
