Happiness, love and Jesus
We began this month’s Sunday club by drawing people who help us: a teacher, a policemen, a lollipop lady, grandma and even the lady at the check-out in Morrisons.
Next, we had lucky dip to find hidden words. We discovered there were two kinds of words, words that were ‘like Jesus’, and others that were ‘not like Jesus’. We discussed which words showed us what Jesus is like and put them on a chart together.
Then it was time to sing a medley of the songs we know. Once we were warmed up, there was quite a bit of jumping up and down, clapping and dancing.
Jesus welcomes the children
The story of Jesus welcoming little children gave us our main theme and a good chance to show our acting skill. Michael was a particularly fierce disciple keeping Eve and her grandma away.
The idea of welcoming like Jesus was worked out in another drama based on being in the school playground. Different groups playing had to decide whether or not to allow a new child to join in.
It was then time for another song. ‘Cross over the road’ asks if we will put ourselves out to help people in need.
In our final craft activity we made bracelets that contained a coded message, using the symbols for ourselves, happiness, love, and Jesus. We wore these into church to show everyone.
We ended with a prayer about showing God’s love at home and school, then we finished by saying The Lord’s Prayer together.
Sunday Club is now on holiday during August. We will meet again in September.
