On 7 November, 7th Kendal (St George’s) Guides headed out into the woods near Sizergh Barn for a woodland adventure day. It was a very wet start with a very wet forecast ahead but we had a fantastic day. We made fires using flint and steel which kept us warm and dry under our tarps. We learnt about the history of the coppice and types of wood growing in this woodland. We then made bead necklaces using elder wood and butter knives from hazel wood. We learnt how to make our own string and made charcoal in the fire and also made flags using natural dye from leaves. And obviously we had to toast marshmallows and make popcorn on the fire! We hope to go again next year.
